Baseball Is Back!
The 2025 MLB season is finally upon us and so too is The Steele Sports Bar's new lineup of baseball content...

Hi everyone!
It is the first Sunday without football and it doesn’t feel quite right. However, on the other hand, we were treated to an electric showdown between the U.S. and Canada in the 4 Nations Face-Off on Saturday night, so that was something.
I was finally able to drag myself away from my sick bed today after a full week of feeling crappy. A knockout combination of flu and throwing up really knocked me for six and left me with little to no energy. I couldn’t even properly enjoy the Super Bowl, which sucked. Instead, I was forced to watch the Eagles absolutely knock the tar out of the Chiefs in-between emergency trips to the toilet to throw up, not to mention the worse sore throat I’ve experienced in quite some time. It felt as though someone had sprinkled a bucket of broken glass right down my throat.
So, in a nutshell, this past week was not exactly what I would call fun.
Anyway, as I said, I’m slowly starting to get back to normal and I’m hoping to be able to get back to the grind this week. I have lots to catch up on, and there’s a boatload of things I want to talk about in general, too.
On that note, I wanted to jump on tonight to make you aware of what I’m really going to be focused on when it comes to the newsletter for the next little while.
Baseball is finally back - praise the lord - and that means the website is going to go into turbocharge mode from here on out. As most of you will be aware, baseball makes up most of my day job and it is also the sport I love the most. Therefore, I can safely predict that I’m going to be doing a lot of talking and writing about baseball over the coming months.
America’s National Pastime is a deep-seated passion of mine - despite being born a million miles away in England - and nothing makes me happier knowing that actual baseball games are just around the corner. I’m even excited for spring training games to start next week, although I’m sure that feeling will quickly fade after the first few days. After all, seeing all notable names pulled after just a few innings makes the games less fun to follow, although I do have a spreadsheet full of prospects I’m excited to watch this spring*.
*Yes, I really am that much of a baseball nerd.
With players currently stretching loose in camp and preparing for the grueling grind of a 162-game regular season marathon, I too have been busy behind the scenes laying the groundwork for what I hope will be a special 2025 season.
I have a plethora of what I hope to be hugely compelling content planned for the year, and here’s a taster of what to expect over the coming days, weeks and months:
Divisional breakdowns - I’ll be taking a deep look at each division as we edge closer to the regular season, profiling every team, every must-watch player and prospect and taking a look at the biggest burning question for each team;
Storylines - Between now and Opening Day, I’ll share the biggest and most compelling storylines that are intriguing me throughout spring training;
Questions & Predictions - I’ll also dive into some of the biggest questions I want answering in 2025, before making some bold and not so bold predictions for the year;
Top 10 Lists - MLB Network has been publishing its list of top 10 players at each position, and I’m going to attempt to do the same throughout spring training. I will also share the top 10 prospects I’m most excited about, my top 10 bounce-back candidates, my top 10 breakout players to watch and much more!
Players I Love To Watch - I watch an unhealthy amount of baseball and, therefore, there are a ton of players I love to watch. I will be writing essays on as many of those players as I can in the buildup to Opening Day;
Editorials - I am going to look to launch a weekly op-ed featuring my thoughts on the latest talking points across MLB, in addition to also publishing a bunch of random baseball thoughts every week, too;

Around The Bases Column - To that end, I will also be writing a weekly ‘Around The Bases’ column, touching on a number of subjects in baseball, while also including my favorite plays of the week, most notable storylines, favorite box scores, mailbag questions and lots more!
That’s just a small sampling of what’s to come on the site throughout the 2025 season, and I’m also working on a bunch of other ideas for new baseball content too. If there is anything you would like to see featured, let me know in the comments below!
Now, I have mentioned some of the above ideas in previous years but have never got round to bringing them to life for whatever reason. I want that to change this year, however, and I’m really excited just to get to talk baseball again.
With camps well underway across Major League Baseball, I’m going to start rolling out some of the aforementioned content over the next couple of days. You will then start to see a gradual shift to lots and lots of baseball content. Of course, that doesn’t mean I won’t be talking about other stuff too, but there will no doubt be a heavier tilt towards baseball for the next several months.
I’m excited to share what I’ve got planned with you all.
Let’s go play some ball. Happy baseball season!
Can’t wait for more!
