Baseball Is Back - Blogs Of Steele Has You Covered
What To Expect From Our Baseball Coverage In 2023...
“You ask me what I do in the winter when there is no baseball. I tell you what I do, I’ll stare out the window and wait for spring.”
That quote comes from what I consider to still be the best opening from the MLB The Show Series. That featured in the 2018 edition.
And it perhaps sums up how baseball fans, baseball media personalities and baseball players and teams are feeling up and down the country right now.
Baseball is back.
Yes, spring training is here with Pitchers & Catchers reporting to camps in Florida and Arizona this week.
It means that hope is in the air, all 30 teams are starting with a clean slate and we get to watch some good old baseball. Because, while some are quick to declare the sport dead, it is alive and kicking and baseball season is the best time of year.
It means we get to enjoy the sweet sound of the crack of a bat, we get to marvel as pitchers gear up to launch 110 mph fastballs, and we get to watch in intrigue as players battle to make the Opening Day roster.
Plus, there’s a boatload of things to be excited about this spring.
For one; we actually have a normal spring training for the first time since 2019. There’s a bevy of new rule changes that could drag the sport kicking and screaming into the 21st century, and also improve the overall quality of the product being put out there.
The World Baseball Classic is on the horizon and that’s going to be a fun watch. Plus, with the likes of Justin Verlander, Jacob deGrom, Trea Turner and Xander Bogaerts all in new places, there’s going to be a lot to sink our teeth into this spring.
Let’s also not forget the mammoth storyline that is the future of unicorn superstar Shohei Ohtani. The two-way powerhouse is a free agent after 2023 and he could become the first $500 million player in the history of baseball. The Angels will need to have a winning season in order to stand any chance of keeping one of the most exciting talents we’ve ever seen in the sport beyond this year. It is going to be a fascinating sub-plot to watch play out in spring training and beyond.
So, what does all this mean for Blogs Of Steele?
Allow us to tell you…
Blogs Of Steele Founder & Editor, Andrew Steele has spent the past couple of years covering the New York Mets for Metsmerized, so he’s well-placed to write about the baseball scene in New York.
However, our baseball coverage here at Blogs Of Steele won’t just revolve around the Mets or the Yankees. There’s too much going on to limit ourselves like that.
No, we’ve got a lot planned for the 2023 season.
From breaking down the Ohtani situation to attempting to explain why the likes of the Houston Astros and the Atlanta Braves are so damn good year in and year out to salivating over the crop of exciting young talent currently taking the sport by storm, we’re going to serve up a tasty dish that has something for everyone. No matter your team.
It won’t be just us writing, either. We’re working on special guests to come on ‘The Andrew Steele Podcast’ to lend their expertise on the latest topics in and around MLB, and we’re also looking to produce some long-form stories that will take you into the heart of the game in 2023.
So, pick up your bat, lace your glove, fill your mouth with some Cracker Jack and get ready because baseball is back.
And we’re going to make the 2023 season a special one.
It’s baseball season, baby.
“People who write about spring training not being necessary have never tried to throw a baseball.”
- Sandy Koufax.
