Get Ready For The Playoffs (And The Offseason) With Blogs Of Steele
Here's what is coming up on the site over the coming weeks & months...
We’re rapidly approaching the sweet spot when it comes to sports.
By that I mean the end of September and the entire month of October, which is absolute nirvana for sports fans.
That is probably underselling it. What we have coming up is an absolute mouthwatering feast of non-stop sports with all four major sports in action at the same time. It is a beautiful rarity we must savor every single year.
The NHL gets its preseason schedule underway this weekend. The NBA will swiftly follow. The NFL is in full swing of course, as is College Football.
Then, obviously, we also have the thrilling pennant and playoff races in baseball to conclude September, before the postseason begins in October.
This time next month we’ll be basking in the beautiful glow of playoff baseball, the start of the NHL / NBA regular seasons, not to mention the fact we’ll be fully immersed in football by that point too.
I love this time of year anyway because we wave goodbye to the stifling heat of summer, and usher in the crisp coolness of fall. Hello baggy hoodies, comfy beanies and all the Pumpkin Spiced Lattes we can handle.
Yes, I am well and truly on the Pumpkin Spiced bandwagon. Always have been, always will be.
But my affection for this time of year reaches overdrive because of the buffet of sports we’re about to be handed on a silver platter.
And that’s where Blogs Of Steele enters the picture.
I thought now would be the perfect time to give you guys a heads up on what’s coming up on the site over the coming weeks as we gear up for non-stop sports all the time.
So, given that this is primarily a baseball site, let’s start there…
This really has been an incredible year for Major League Baseball. I’m pretty confident in saying that when we look back on the 2023 season, we’ll consider it the rebirth of baseball as we know it. It has been that epic.
And, with the regular season winding down, we’ll have content on the thrilling pennant / wild card races, the all-time great / historic battle for the National League MVP, and we’ll of course get you geared up and prepared for the postseason.
The Atlanta Braves are the team to beat, and they just may well be unstoppable, if you ask me.
Once a World Series champion is crowned, all eyes will then switch to what will be one of the most compelling Free Agency periods in the history of the sport. And I don’t think that’s being too prisoner of the moment or hyping things up too much.
There’s going to be some really intriguing names available on the open market, but all focus will be on Shohei Ohtani. Having undergone successful elbow surgery, Ohtani has declared that he will be ready for Opening Day 2024, and he’ll be able to resume pitching duties in 2025. As a result, I fully expect the two-way superstar to still take home a monster deal north of $500 million this offseason. Ohtani has spent his entire career proving the doubters wrong and doing things no other mere mortal could only dream of, and I truly believe he’ll do it again by recovering from this latest injury and returning to the dominant two-way juggernaut he is. And I think a slew of teams will have that same belief, hence why Ohtani is going to absolutely dominate the entire sports world this winter. His Free Agency is going to take over every single sports news cycle until it is resolved, and it is going to be absolutely epic for the game of baseball.
We’re going to be all over that, and we’ll look to chat with experts and insiders from every major player in the Ohtani sweepstakes. It is going to be quite the ride.
From Free Agent / Trade profiles to opinion pieces to analysis and breakdowns, Blogs Of Steele will have all your baseball needs covered throughout both the postseason and the offseason.
After an all-time epic regular season, I think the playoffs and Free Agency will only continue to put baseball back on the map where it belongs.
Now, you may be asking what will happen to the site once baseball is done and things go on hiatus during the dog days of the offseason. In truth, nothing. Given that the sports news cycle changes more times than we change our underwear, there is no such thing as an offseason so there will be plenty of baseball to talk about even in the midst of the long months of December, January and February. Then, before we know it, spring training will be here.
Plus, there will be a slew of other things going on across the site to keep you entertained when baseball does take a day or two off. For instance, every week throughout the football season, I’ll be publishing my ‘Confessions of a Suffering Jets Fan,’ which is basically therapy for me as I continue to be punished for supporting the New York Football Jets. That will be online a few days after each Jets game this season, and you can read the first installment HERE. Spoiler alert: it gets pretty, pretty, pretty dark. But there are also a lot of Curb Your Enthusiasm references in there, so something for everyone!
We’ll also have a couple of new features launching soon, including a roundup of things that caught my eye from the wider sports world every week, and I’ll also be writing a weekly column where literally EVERYTHING will be fair game. That’s a weekly feature I’m really excited about.
Plus, and I know I’ve teased this for the longest time now, but my ‘Alternative Mt. Rushmore’ series will also be launching incredibly soon. And I’m sure I’ll have a few more crazy ideas along the way too.
So, in a nutshell, there is going to be a boatload of cool stuff happening across Blogs Of Steele both during baseball season and after it too. So you will never have an excuse not to visit us!
Oh, and finally, the Andrew Steele Podcast will be back later this week too. And there may be a new addition to the Podcast family here soon too…
I’ll leave it there for now, but we really are entering the best time of year and I also believe that you will see the best version of me, and the best version of Blogs Of Steele over these coming weeks and months.
There’s so much to get excited about in the sports world, and there is so much to get excited about when it comes to this website too.
