Happy Memorial Day, TSSB Patrons.
I hope you have all enjoyed the long weekend and indulged in a plethora of sports, good food and sun.
For my New York subscribers, I sure hope you made the most of the sun this weekend because the weather today has been gross.
I wanted to quickly jump on because the importance of today cannot be overstated.
Memorial Day is a day where we should all stop to remember and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our great nation.
Thanks to those who fought for this country and those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, we live in a country where we have the freedom to say what we want, do what we want and make our wildest dreams come true.
That is only possible because of the heroes who gave everything to protect those very freedoms for us. It remains possible because of the heroes who are currently fighting and risking their lives for all of us.
Today should only be about honoring and remembering those who made the supreme sacrifice, and those who continue to put their lives on the line to protect the freedoms of America.
We must also think of the families of those who have sacrificed so much, especially those who have dealt with and are dealing with unmanageable loss.
We live in incredibly divided and scary times right now, but we can never lose sight of the importance of remembering all the soldiers and veterans who fought for this country, and all those who died fighting for America.
Thank you will never be enough, but we must continue to pay homage to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
We must do a better job of loving and protecting the country our brave heroes died to protect.
I am certainly grateful.
I wasn’t born in America, but the United States has always felt like home and my heart will always belong there.
I’m beyond grateful to get to do what I love in the country I love because of those who gave everything so that we could chase our biggest dreams.
No matter what happens, we must never stop honoring the incredible sacrifices made by our nation’s heroes. Not just today, but every day.
We are here because of them.
I’ve tried my best to stop and remember our fallen heroes today, and I’ve found myself thinking about Pat Tillman on a constant basis.
Tillman was the ultimate Patriot. An All-Pro safety, Tillman turned his back on the NFL in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in order to enlist with the United States Army. Sadly and tragically, Tillman was killed in combat in Afghanistan on April 22, 2004. He was just 27-years-old.
Tillman, who broke the Cardinals franchise record for tackles in 2000 with 224, turned down a $3.6 million contract in order to fight for his country and protect our freedoms.
I strongly believe that everyone should know the Pat Tillman story inside out.
You can read about his incredible legacy HERE.
I’d also strongly recommend that you read this ESPN story about Tillman’s death.
You should also carve out some time today to watch this excellent feature about Tillman’s incredible sacrifice and his enduring legacy, from ESPN’s Outside The Lines:
If you fancy some patriotic listening, by the way, then you can’t go wrong with ‘Land of Hope and Dreams’ by Bruce Springsteen. It is a great song, but it also represents everything great about America. Give it a listen:
With what is left of today, please make sure to take a moment to think about those who sacrificed so much for this great country, and for the many, many, many loved ones left behind.
It is the very least we can do.
Thank you to all who have served, and to those who continue to serve and protect.
