TSSB’s Top 10 Articles Of 2023
With 2024 so nearly here, I thought now would be the perfect time to recap 2023 and look back on the 10 most popular The Steele Sports Bar newsletters of the year:
1. Andrew’s Top 10 Most Intriguing MLB Free Agents
The offseason is often the most entertaining and gripping time of the year for sports fans, so it is perhaps no surprise that you were all locked into my look at the Top 10 most intriguing free agents in Major League Baseball. I have a feeling the headline act had something to do with it…
Andrew's Top 10 Most Intriguing MLB Free Agents
Hot Stove season is my favorite time of year. I mean, what isn’t to love? We see a flurry of movement as some of the best players in the game switch teams, while franchises spend a boatload of money in Free Agency in order to bolster their rosters. We also witness organizations use the Trade Market in order to swing for the fences and make a move that they hope will put their teams over the top.
2. Bunch Of (Belated) Thoughts on Shohei Ohtani, The Gift That Keeps On Giving For The Dodgers
If we fast forward a year from now, it will not shock me if a few of my Top 10 most popular articles of 2024 are Shohei Ohtani based. All eyes are going to be on the two-way superstar and the LA Dodgers next year, and my stream of consciousness on the biggest moment in baseball in 2023 certainly caught your attention.
Bunch Of (Belated) Thoughts On Shohei Ohtani, The Gift That Keeps On Giving For The Dodgers
Happy Holidays! Sports never rests, especially this time of year, and one storyline in particular keeps dominating the headlines. Shohei Ohtani. Sure, the ink is now dry on the record-breaking, history-making $700 million, 10-year contract Ohtani signed with the Dodgers earlier this month. Old news, some may argue.
3. Andrew’s Most Compelling MLB Trade Candidates Pt. 1
Again, Hot Stove season generates insane interest and this newsletter proved to be no different. Interestingly, only two of my top six most compelling trade candidates have been dealt so far in Juan Soto (to the Yankees) and Tyler Glasnow (to the Dodgers).
Andrew's Most Compelling MLB Trade Candidates Pt. 1
We’re just a couple of days away from the start of the MLB Winter Meetings, which means that Hot Stove season is about to crank up a gear or two. While all eyes will be on Shohei Ohtani and Free Agency in general, the Winter Meetings usually deliver a handful of blockbuster trades. And, let’s be honest, that’s what really gets the blood flowing.
4. Andrew’s Most Compelling MLB Trade Candidates Pt. 2
Gleyber Torres, Willy Adames and Shane Bieber were some of the names I looked at in Pt. 2 of my trade feature. I expect the trade market to really pick up after the holidays.
Andrew's Most Compelling MLB Trade Candidates Pt. 2
It is time for Part 2 of my most compelling MLB Trade Candidates feature. Part 1 was published on Friday, with the likes of Juan Soto, Tyler Glasnow, Corbin Burnes and Jonathan India included. You can read Pt. 1 in full by visiting the link below: As a reminder, this list is made up of players who have been included in multiple reports about being on the trade block. As was the case in Pt. 1, all the candidates included in Pt. 2 seem likely to be on the move at some point this offseason.
5. Re-Entry Tuesday: Eagles-Bills Thriller, MNF Poo-Poo Platter, NY Sports Happiness Meter + More
Every now and then I like to unload a bunch of random thoughts and spill my guts about a slew of sports topics. This was a fun one. Eagles - Bills was arguably one of the games of the year, the Vikings - Bears was inarguably the hottest mess game of the year, and I rated my New York sports teams based on happiness.
Re-Entry Tuesday: Eagles-Bills Thriller, MNF Poo-Poo Platter, NY Sports Happiness Meter + More
Okay, so I wanted to get this out on Monday but I’m glad I didn’t because Monday Night Football’s poop fest gave me something else to talk about. It was a busy weekend across sports as a marquee matchup in the NFL didn’t disappoint, the New York Rangers continue to make me giddy, the Blackhawks demonstrate how not to handle a social media conspiracy theory, and Hot Stove season shows signs of warming up. Finally.
6. Things I Want To See Happen At The Trade Deadline
There is a theme developing here. Again, people go crazy for theoretical trades and you probably all laughed at how much I got wrong in this article.
Things I Want To See Happen At The Trade Deadline
The MLB Trade Deadline is here. Buyers have until 6 p.m. EST to bolster their rosters ahead of a hoped deep postseason run. We’ve already seen a slew of big-time deals go down over the past few days, but there are still a glut of high-profile names blowing out in the wind waiting to see what their future will look like by the end of the day. There’s also a myriad of aggressive teams still wanting to make a move or two in order to upgrade their rosters for the stretch run.
7. New York Sports Ultimate Christmas Gift Wish List
This was a recent one! Santa Claus has been and gone but I’ve asked for a couple of extra presents for my New York sports teams. One of them was the Rangers winning the Stanley Cup in 2024. That’s not asking for too much, right?
New York Sports Ultimate Christmas Gift Wish List
Santa Claus has been and gone and, hopefully, he left you everything you wished for this holiday season. The older you get the more easily pleased you are. Underpants, stuff that makes you smell better and socks are all presents you come to appreciate even more the more trips around the sun you make.
8. Sports Potpourri Galore: Long Live Joe Flacco, Pistons Belong On Mt. Crapmore, Don’t Sleep On Matthew Stafford & The Rams, And More!
Another unloading of random sports thoughts. Joe Flacco is the coolest story of the year, the Pistons are historically bad, the Rams may be the team to watch in the postseason and there was a hell of a lot more I needed to get off my chest too.
Sports Potpourri Galore: Long Live Joe Flacco, Pistons Belong On Mt. Crapmore, Don't Sleep On Matthew Stafford & The Rams, And More!
I love holiday season. But I also hate holiday season. Allow me to explain. I hate it because I literally don’t know what day of the week it is right now. I am so confused, although that is pretty standard for me. But I also love this week because there is literally games on every single night and it is freaking great.
9. Sports, My Dad, And I
One thing I’ve noticed is that readers in general love personal articles and stuff from the heart. This was no different as I reflected on my relationship with my Dad and our shared love of sports on Father’s Day.
Sports, My Dad, And I
This is the first Father’s Day since I’ve had the site, so I thought what better present than to write something nice about my Dad here that everyone on the weird, wonderful internet can see. Okay, some may interpret this as me being cheap - no comment - but there’s only so many bottles of wine or random books my Dad can keep in the house.
10. An Emergency Trip To The Dentist And The New York Jets
Without doubt my most painful moment of 2023 as a tooth emergency paired with an embarrassing Jets loss on SNF to truly kick me in the balls.
An Emergency Trip To The Dentist And The New York Jets
Allow me to bring you inside my last 24 hours or so. Spoiler Alert; it ain’t pretty. It all started on Saturday. I had some errands to run, a busy day of work ahead and some fun personal plans. The usual. Anywa…
Let me know what some of your favorite articles were in the comments below! I would also love to hear what you would like to see on the site in 2024.
Without you, this site would not exist and I wouldn’t be able to do what I do. The best way to support me is with a paid subscription. Monthly and yearly plans are available.
Happy New Year from everyone here at The Steele Sports Bar!
Have a great night and here’s to an exciting and huge 2024.
