Introducing The NYC Sports Fanatic's Corner!
Revealing a cool new addition to the site that will no doubt act as a form of self-therapy throughout the year...
It is no secret that I’m a huge New York sports fan. I’ve been pretty open about that from day one.
I’ve also made crystal clear who my allegiances lie with. I’m a proud fan of the Rangers, Knicks and Jets. I’m also a Mets fan, but I try to be more professional in that regard given I cover baseball for a living.
Now, you’d be smart to question my life choices when it comes to my teams given that I’ve seemingly been stuck on a never-ending rollercoaster of pain since falling head over heels in love with American sports well over a decade ago.
Sure, the Rangers have had moments over the last year few years, including making the Eastern Conference Final against all odds in 2022. The Knicks are on their way back and have been a hell of a lot of fun to root for again. And the Jets should, at the very least, be interesting to watch this year with a healthy Aaron Rodgers under center.
But, overall, I’ve been subjected to a boatload of abject suffering and misery with buckets of disappointment thrown in there for good measure.
The Rangers have suffered back-to-back postseason failures and their window appears to be closing. The Knicks, up until very recently, were the gold standard for suckiness in sports. And the Jets were not far behind in that department, either. Then I had to deal with the heartbreak of seeing Rodgers - and the entire Jets’ season - go down in flames just four plays in last year after an offseason full of hope and unbridled joy. Don’t get me started on the Mets, either.
It has been rough to say the least.
With all that said, now seemed the perfect time to carve out a section on this website specifically designed to act as a form of therapy and space to vent / scream / celebrate (hopefully) when it comes to my New York sports fandom.
As the graphic above details, I’ll be focusing on the Rangers, Jets and the Knicks given that the Mets are more my day job.
In terms of how this is going to work, I will basically just drop my thoughts like a bomb whenever something notable happens. The Rangers appear to be standing pat so I expect the rest of their offseason to be quiet, therefore there probably won’t be all that much to get mad / excited about. The Knicks have just given up an absolute haul to the Nets for Mikal Bridges, re-signed OG Anunoby and it appears they may not be done yet. I’ll have plenty of thoughts on all of that over the coming weeks. And, as for the Jets, NFL Training Camps open next week so be prepared for a bunch of random football / Rodgers / Jets musings as we proceed into the dog days of summer.
Overall, I want this to be a fun exercise and one that allows me to take a break from the main task of covering baseball and really indulge my sports fandom however many times a week. After all, I’m still a sports fanatic at heart like all of you and all of those wild emotions need to be channeled somewhere.
As I’ve said before, baseball is the main focus of our coverage here at TSSB, but I am prone to being engulfed with a slew of random sports thoughts and I may as well spew them out on my own site.
I’ll look to roll out the inaugural edition of the NYC Sports Fanatic’s Corner within the next week or so, and then I’ll probably do one or two a month until the NFL / NBA / NHL seasons get back underway. Once that happens, expect at least one column a week depending on what’s going down in any given week.
All in all, I’m really excited about this. There are few things I love more than talking sports, which is why I set up this little old website in the first place. There’s also few things I love more than my New York sports teams, so this really is a perfect opportunity to blend together two of my greatest passions and have some fun in the process.
