Welcome to NHL Trade Deadline week.
Okay, we’ll preface this by stating that the actual Trade Deadline itself on Friday may be a bit of a dud.
While teams can still trade up until the 3 p.m. ET cutoff point, a lot of the major moves are already in the books. The New Jersey Devils have loaded up by acquiring San Jose Sharks forward Timo Meier, who was one of the biggest prizes available at the Trade Deadline.
The Toronto Maple Leafs continue to make a string of smart moves - yes, you heard that right - and we’ll be diving into the job done by General Manager Kyle Dubas later this week. The Tampa Bay Lightning have insisted on still giving up a boatload of draft picks for fun, and the Boston Bruins have gone all in by adding some more size to an already stacked roster.
Then, of course, the big move we’ve all been waiting for. Earlier on Tuesday, it was confirmed that the New York Rangers were pulling the trigger on a blockbuster trade for three-time Stanley Cup champion Patrick Kane. And they didn’t have to give up a whole lot either. Again, we’ll delve more into that later.
With it seeming unlikely that Sharks defenseman Erik Karlsson will get moved - that contract is almost impossible to trade mid-season - it seems likely that all we’ll see will be a string of minor moves leading up to Friday’s Trade Deadline.
Unless, of course, we’re treated to a mouthwatering trade out of left field.
Either way, we at Blogs Of Steele have you covered. We’re going to have analysis of the Kane trade later today, we’ve got some fun stuff on the Leafs and the Devils coming later in the week and we’ll add a unique spin to some of the moves made. In addition to providing the sneaky trades we really, really, really like.
We’ll also have a couple of very smart hockey people on the podcast this week to break it all down for you.
So, while we’re very much in the bottom of the ninth inning in terms of most of the action having already played out, we all know GM’s get a little nuts at the Trade Deadline so stick with us to make sure you don’t miss any last-minute craziness.
And, in the meantime, here’s a couple of things we’ve done on two of the biggest names dealt before the Trade Deadline…
Trade Deadlines are always fun events to follow and we look forward to bringing you all the madness!
