It hasn’t been a great year for New York Baseball…
The Mets have been an absolute dumpster fire and the Yankees, missing their superstar slugger in Aaron Judge for much of June and July, have crumbled and currently occupy last place in the AL East.
It looks incredibly likely that the Mets will miss the postseason. Will the Yankees join them in having a complete bust of a season?
There is more reason to be positive when it comes to the Yanks. After all, they have a lot of games coming up at Yankee Stadium, they are on the cusp of sweeping the Royals to start a crucial stretch and, most importantly, they will have Judge back soon. That will certainly help.
As always, there is lots to talk about when it comes to the Yankees so it seemed the perfect time to get Julian Guilarte to come on ‘The Andrew Steele Podcast.’ Julian, who covers the Somerset Patriots for MiLB and MLB, and the Yankees for Latino Sports and Dugout Station, joined me to discuss a bevy of different topics, including:
Straight off the bat we get into whether or not the Yankees will make the postseason, and what needs to happen to make sure they do.
We do a deep dive on why this is such a poorly constructed roster, and why GM Brian Cashman needs to be held accountable for some of the questionable (at best) trades and Free Agency moves he’s pulled the trigger on.
Is Anthony Volpe the long-term guy at Shortstop for the New York Yankees? Julian thinks so.
Julian reveals the one player he’s given up hope on, what prospects could make the leap to the Majors this year and why vaunted prospect Jasson Dominguez has a lot of work to do before he’s ready for the bigs.
What will the Yankees do at the Trade Deadline? What should they do? Julian gives his thoughts, and we delve into some of the potential options we like the most. We both agree that Cody Bellinger would be the perfect fit in the Bronx.
Will the Yankees be one of the most aggressive teams to pursue two-way shortstop Shohei Ohtani in Free Agency? Julian’s answer may surprise you.
All of that and more!
Happy Listening!
