Viva Las Vegas - Super Bowl LVIII Predictions!
Will the Chiefs continue their march towards absolute greatness? Or will Brock Purdy finally help the 49ers over the hump?
Happy Super Bowl Sunday!
Super Bowl LVIII is finally here and, like most of you I’m sure, I’m currently sat digesting the marathon slog that is the pregame buildup.
Although, I will say, Gameday Morning, and the NFL Network, overall, does a really nice job of providing wall-to-wall coverage of the biggest game in America.
Anyway, the biggest sporting - and TV - event in America is upon us and there is no doubt that Vegas will put on an absolute show. It has certainly been a star-studded week in Sin City, and a venue as stunningly sleek as Allegiant Stadium should be hosting the marquee event of the entire sporting calendar.
In terms of the game itself, we really couldn’t ask for a better matchup, one that is laced with a plethora of intriguing storylines. Sure, would it have been cool to see the underdog Detroit Lions pit their wits against the juggernaut Chiefs on the game’s biggest stage? You bet.
However, there is something pretty damn thrilling about the best team in all of football during the regular season (the 49ers) take on a team that is hoping to add another building block to its dynasty run (the Chiefs). San Francisco is loaded on both sides of the ball, while Patrick Mahomes is the best quarterback in football and he’s built to truly shine in the biggest moments on the biggest stage.
We’ve seen it too many times before to believe otherwise at this point.
Everything is in place for Vegas to deliver the world an absolute doozy of a game.
And now it is time for me to deliver you my prediction for Sunday…
Super Bowl LVIII Prediction!
There is so much to love about this matchup. The loaded 49ers were an absolute relentless juggernaut for all but three weeks of the regular season. The Chiefs were anything but, yet they’ve quickly reminded the world why they are a dynasty in waiting after dominating in the playoffs.
And, to that point, I don’t understand why the 49ers are favorites for Super Bowl LVIII, even if it is marginal. Sure, they boast a slew of elite offensive weapons, they have Nick Bosa and Trent Williams, Brock Purdy is much more than a game-manager - 17-4, 68.7% completion rate, 5.654 yards, 44 touchdowns and just 15 interceptions over 21 regular season games proves that - and Kyle Shanahan is a brilliant football mind.
However, with all that being said, how can you bet against Mahomes and this Chiefs team? I mean, just how?!
Sunday’s game marks the fourth trip to the Super Bowl in five years for Mahomes, and if he can lead his team to victory he will enter rarified air in elite company. Only Tom Brady (seven), Terry Bradshaw (four), Joe Montana (four) and Troy Aikman (three) have hoisted the Lombardi Trophy at least three times.
No team has gone back-to-back as Super Bowl champions since the 2003-04 Patriots, but I expect that to change on Sunday night in Vegas.
Mahomes is just too special and he’s been here before. When his team needs him to make a big play in the game’s biggest moments, he will deliver and will deliver in ultimate style.
Also, that Chiefs defense has been absolutely dominant in the postseason, holding teams to just 13.7 points per game. Steve Spagnuolo wasn’t a very good Head Coach, but he’s a damn great DC and he’ll have tricks up his sleeve that will prove too difficult for Brock Purdy to overcome.
I’m expecting another defensive masterclass and some more Mahomes magic for KC in Super Bowl LVIII. Never, ever bet against Mahomes or this Chiefs team.
Kansas City Chiefs 24, 49ers 13.
MVP: Patrick Mahomes because, who else?
