Why I've Been MIA
I'm back! And I'm here to apologize for my lengthy hiatus and reveal a couple of improvements to the website...
Hello everyone…
It has been a minute. Well, actually, it has been over two months since I last posted anything on this website.
But don’t worry. I didn’t die or anything. Although I’m sure me meeting an untimely ending would no doubt have pleased some.
All that said, it has been a long, long time since I last sent out a newsletter or posted anything in this space. And, to be honest, it feels a hell of a lot longer.
I am currently working on a much longer post to detail exactly why I’ve been missing in action to the extreme. The reasons aren’t exactly easy to explain in a short amount of time, and I want to make sure I do a good job of conveying everything I’ve been navigating over the past couple of months. After all, given all the loyalty and support you have shown me and this website from day one, being completely open and honest is the least I can do.
But, for now, let’s just say that this has been one of the toughest stretches of my entire life and I’m gradually working my way out of the haze. It is a slow process and one I need to take day-by-day.
For now, though, there’s a couple of things I want to address first…
The main thing is to apologize from the bottom of my heart for just disappearing off the face of the earth and vanishing deep into space without so much as a whisper. That was wrong of me. And there are no excuses. Yes, I was dealing with a plethora of deeply-personal issues. But I should have at least communicated that to you all. After all, you have all invested your time and money in me and in this site and you deserved better.
I will do better. I promise.
For those of you who have paid subscriptions - and allow me to thank you once again for taking that incredible leap of faith - I will get in touch to either arrange a refund for the last couple of months or to give you the next two months free. We’ll work out whatever works best for you.
Again, I will send out another newsletter very soon - hopefully later today - where I will do a deep dive into my absence and the personal journey I’ve been on. That story deserves its own space. For now, however, I just wanted to say I’m truly sorry for going off the reservation and not delivering on all the promises I made at the start of this adventure.
If the last couple of months have taught me anything, it is that I love what we’ve created here and I truly believe the best is yet to come. As the old saying goes, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain. This last little stretch has been absolute hell and I’ve been tested to my absolute limit over and over and over again.
However, I see the light at the end of the tunnel and I’m excited to get back to delivering regular content on the daily to you all. I will make up for these last couple of months and I will regain your trust.
That’s a promise you can take to the bank.
The second thing I wanted to address was some slight changes to the website and to how we are going to do things here moving forward.
You will probably have noticed while reading this that the site has undergone somewhat of a face lift. I decided to ditch the green background and revert back to the tried-and-tested white background. It just looks more professional this way.
Beyond the superficial tweaks, I’ve been reviewing the entire website and working out what works well and what doesn’t. After hours of brainstorming, I’ve decided to rework our approach a little bit.
Starting this week, this site will be dedicated to providing a platform for all the sports thoughts / musings / frustrations / rants that I have stored in my head. In other words, I’ll be emptying out my desk drawer of sports thoughts on a daily basis.
And, given we’re currently in the best month of the entire year when it comes to sports, you can expect an explosion of random sports thoughts every single day. From the NFL to the NHL to MLB and the NBA, I’ll be covering a little bit of everything. Plus, The Andrew Steele Podcast will be making a long overdue comeback at some point too.
I’m not going to commit to a structured schedule, either. All I will guarantee is that I’ll strive to get out one newsletter every day. But, given that we’re residing in sports nirvana right now with a bunch of different stuff going on, you may get two or even three posts on certain days.
Also, given that we’re a family here and they’ve proven to be a hit before, I’ll look to post some personal thoughts and non-sports related things here and there as well. But, with that said, 99% of what we do here will be geared towards talking about sports. After all, this is The Steele Sports Bar and we’re all here to talk sports.
That’s kind of the crux of what I wanted to say today. As I stated up top, I will be back with a longer and much more personal post explaining just what has been going on with me. That hasn’t been easy to write and it is a sensitive subject, so I want to make sure I do it justice.
Once that has posted, and the rather large elephant in the room has been addressed, I’ll look to get back to regular programming later this week. And, let me tell you, I can’t wait to return to just writing about sports every single day. Some normality in my life will certainly be welcomed.
Anyway, before I go, thank you again for sticking by me and for continuing to support the site. I can’t begin to put into words just how much that means. Your support will forever be appreciated.
Here’s to getting back to normal.
I’ll be back later with that personal essay as promised.
Until then…
Legend 👊❤️
Thank you for the kind words, Louis. They really do mean the world. I'm certainly happy to be back. And I hope you are okay after your break. I decided to share in the end - I just posted - and hopefully it may help others who are struggling or going through something. Thank you again for your support and kind words.
